ATLANTA, Georgia – This year’s flu season, already bad, just continues to get worse and health officials aren’t sure why.

The CDC is on record saying the season is now as bad as the swine flu epidemic nine years ago.

The flu has sent more than twice as many people to the hospital than this time last year.

One in 13 doctor visits last week was for flu symptoms.

CBS News Chief Medical Correspondent Dr. Jon LaPook says if you’ve already gotten the flu shot getting the flu is still possible but protection is key.

The Washington State Department of Health says for the week ending February 3rd, 151 people have lost their lives to the flu statewide.

Six of those are in Whatcom County, two are in Skagit County, and 3 are in Island County.
