OAK HARBOR, Wash. — Mike Rowe from the show Dirty Jobs, has a new show, “Returning the Favor,” which takes him all over to do good for the “good doers,” and this week, it brought him to Oak Harbor’s Kristiina Miller.
Kristiina Miller runs the “Garage of Blessings” where they take donations and give, not sell, the needed items back to the community.
She says besides the tangible blessings, she and her group of volunteers do something else for those who come in; they care.
Miller says they listen to the people who are hurting, they talk with them and they do what they can to get them back on their feet again.
Unfortunately, the building Kristiina was working out of was too small, and she would have to turn large items like furniture away.
Mike Rowe, his crew and the community stepped up to change that, and renovated the adjacent space so her garage could grow.
It didn’t stop there.
They built an office into the new space for her, the community donated a van and Mike Rowe presented her with a $34,000 check to pay the rent on the new space for a few years.
You can watch the entire 22-minute, tug-at-your-heartstrings, episode on the Returning the Favor Facebook page here.
