BIRCH BAY, Wash. – Work on the so-called Birch Bay berm project is delayed to start until Fall 2018 at the earliest.
The Northern Light reports Whatcom County Public Works staff as saying the County still needs easement agreements on four properties by next summer, in order for work to start after the tourist season ends next fall.
Easement negotiations have been ongoing since spring of 2016.
The project was first proposed in 1975 and planning began in 2012.
The project will restore the natural shoreline and protect Birch Bay Drive from repeats of storm damage in recent years.
