YAKIMA, Wash. — A Yakima high school says an increase in school violence has led them to ban backpacks, purses or other school bags.

Granger High School posted on Facebook that while it will be an inconvenience, this will take away a hiding spot for weapons, drugs and alcohol.

Students will only be required to bring a 3-ring binder with paper and writing utensils.

Students are allowed to use transparent grocery bags, laundry mesh bags or something similar to carry clothes and will face disciplinary measures if they bring prohibited bags.
