LAKEWOOD, Wash. — Three people died and several others were hurt after troopers say a driver hit another vehicle so hard it launched the engine block into the oncoming I-5 lanes early this morning.

The State Patrol tells KOMO a vehicle was hit in the southbound lanes of I-5 in Lakewood and the crash forced the car into the jersey barrier, where it rolled and lost its engine.

Two people in the car were killed on impact, while the third died shortly afterward.

Troopers say the 23-year-old hit-and-run suspect was arrested a few miles south and faces a slew of charges.
