FERNDALE, Wash. – City of Ferndale workers are getting healthier and that’s saving the city money.
The Association of Washington Cities has recognized Ferndale with a WellCity Award for the fifth year in a row.
Ferndale Communications Director Riley Sweeney says among the steps they’ve taken to get city workers in better shape is by investing in standing desksĀ and holdingĀ employee events to encourage healthier eating and regular exercise.
And he says the whole city can get involved with a weekly walk/run organized by Mayor Jon Mutchler.
It starts at the Locker Room Fitness Club every Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
The emphasis on better health earns the city a 2-percent discount on health insurance premiums for its 76 employees.
