BELLINGHAM, Wash. -The number of incidents reported to the Bellingham Police Department is way up.

The City of Bellingham Crime Statistics web page shows Bellingham police logged 12,020 calls in the first two months of 2018.

That’s a workload increase of almost 30% compared to the same period in 2017.

The categories seeing the biggest increases on a percentage basis were reports of sex crimes, up 48%; non-reportable calls to the department, up 37%; and reports of assault, up nearly 30%.

Reports of vehicle prowls were way down for the same period.
