BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Biologist Alan Chapman has a slim lead over small farmer Larry Helm in last week’s election for Whatcom Conservation Commission.

Chapman has received 1,796 votes while Helm received 1,733.

Engineer David Kroontje is far behind with just 183 votes.

Mail-in ballots that were postmarked on election day, March 13th, will be counted Monday.

The conservation district helps farmers and landowners balance the environment with economic issues.
