BELLINGHAM, WASH. – Governor Jay Inslee was in Bellingham Tuesday.
He spoke in support of electric cars and what it would take to generate the energy necessary to power them.
“Solar power is really cost competitive, even with coal-based power in a lot of places in the country right now. Wind power is continuing to come down, costs have gone down dramatically,” Inslee says.
He also discussed behavioral health housing and homelessness.
“We can’t say [homelessness] has necessarily been eliminated, but we know we have been successful when we do smart things,” he says.
Inslee also spent time learning about Shuksan Middle School’s science, technology, engineering and math programs.
He says over time, more money should be provided to schools for computers.
“It’s not just computers,” he says. “Having a coding experience, where students can have an experience in coding computers is very important. It’s not just knowing how to operate them, it’s how to actually code them.”
In addition to Shuksan, Inslee visited Western Washington University and Francis Place.
