FERNDALE, Wash. – A stolen car leads Whatcom County Sheriff’s deputies on a chase they say hit close to 100 miles per hour.

Undersheriff Jeff Parks says a deputy spotted the car on Birch Bay Lynden road.

“[The car] had been reported stolen in Ferndale. One [unit was] coordinating with other units to go ahead and get the car stopped, or apprehend, or see who would have possession of the car at that time. The car sped off, right after a brief stop. Deputies pursued it towards Ferndale – just outside Ferndale.”

Parks says Vitaly Madyka ditched the car and ran off.

People in the Cedars RV Park off Portal reported seeing him.

Then Heston Hauling employees say they spotted him.

That’s where deputies caught up to Madyka and arrested him.
