After 10 years, 129 acres of shellfish bed in Birch Bay are now open.
The Department of Health upgraded the beds from Prohibited to Approved.
According to a news release from the DOH, the area was closed due to pollution from animal waste and leaking septic systems.
With work from multiple organizations the water quality has greatly improved.
