FERNDALE, WASH – A Ferndale lawmaker juggling legislative duties with working in the Trump administration has collected thousands in state expense allowances.
State Senator Doug Ericksen is splitting time between Olympia and a temporary job with the Environmental Protection Agency in Washington, D.C.
“This is such a unique situation, you know to actually be asked by the President to serve on the transition team, it’s an honor,” says Ericksen.
The Seattle Times reports state records show Ericksen has claimed his $120 daily expense allowance for 49 of 84 legislative days for a total of nearly $6,000
The Republican is drawing a nearly 47,000 dollar legislative salary while earning more than $77.00 an hour at the EPA.
Ericksen says he can do both jobs and that he doesn’t collect his allowance when not in Washington state.
