BELLINGHAM, Wash. — A newly admitted COVID-19 positive resident at Shuksan Healthcare Center has died.

In coordination with DSHS and the Whatcom County Health Department, Shuksan opened their doors to care for COVID-19 positive patients last week.

They’re one of only a handful of facilities doing so statewide in an effort to care for residents with the illness who need a higher level of care, but whose condition does not warrant hospitalization.

The Bellingham skilled nursing facility announced Tuesday, 4/28/20, that a patient in their 70s who had tested positive for COVID-19 prior to their admission to Shuksan had passed away.

There are now 22 COVID-19 positive residents there.
