BELLINGHAM, Wash – An 85-year-old Ferndale man is dead after being hit while walking on I-5 Saturday afternoon.
The Washington State Patrol says Rex Radcliff was hit when he got out of his pickup parked on the northbound shoulder just north of Bakerview Road in Bellingham.
As he started crossing the freeway, he was hit by a car driven by a Bellingham woman.
Radcliff was taken to St. Joseph Hospital, where he later died.
Northbound traffic was backed up while the northbound lanes were briefly closed.
Troopers later released the car’s driver from the scene and report she was wearing her seatbelt.
The accident remains under investigation.
