LYMAN, Wash. — While Whatcom County was dealing with the Nooksack River, the Skagit River ate up more of a Lyman family’s property, leaving their home teetering over the river bank.
KOMO reports BrieAnna Anderson and her fiance Michael Taxdahl bought the home along the river in 2008, but severe erosion began last November.
Several residents are affected by this flooding and erosion, but since it’s not declared a federal emergency FEMA won’t buy back the land and approval for a berm is a lengthy process.
Family and friends have multiple GoFundMe pages set up for residents along the river.
