OLYMPIA, Wash – Washington Insurance commissioner Mike Kreidler has announced eleven health insurers have been approved to sell 74 different plans in the Washington for the year 2018.
Premium increases for the 2018 plans average 36.4 percent.
Kreidler says about a third of the average premium increase is due to the elimination of subsidies for the plans recent announced by the Trump administration.
In Whatcom County, a total of 18 different plans will be available from Premera, Lifewise, and Kaiser on the ACA exchange individual market; Kaiser will offer 7 plans in Island and Skagit Counties to individuals.
A federal judge Wednesday denied a petition to reinstate the subsidies, saying states had already prepared for their elimination.
Trump administration officials say the subsidies were illegal because they were not approved by congress.
