SNOQUALMIE PASS, Wash. – The Department of Ecology is fining ACE Hardware $28,000 for a January 2020 diesel spill in the Snoqualmie River.

A company semi-truck was traveling westbound on I-90 in snow and ice when it slid off the road and wrecked, spilling 120 gallons of fuel into the storm water system and south fork of the river.

The driver was traveling 65 when the posted speed limit was 45 and wasn’t chained-up.

D0E Spills Manager Dale Jensen says if the driver had taken the proper precautions, the spill would not have occurred, and he encourages all drivers to pay attention to warnings when they’re on the road.

ACE Hardware has 30 days to appeal the fine.
