BELLINGHAM, Wash. — The Whatcom County Health Department advises residents to get ready now for smoky days and unhealthy air quality as wildfire season gets underway.

Children and the elderly need to be careful, as well as people with heart or lung diseases, asthma, respiratory illnesses and even colds.

You’re urged to limit time outdoors and reduce physical activity on days when air quality isn’t good.

The department also says people with breathing troubles and pregnant women should take precautions now and talk to your doctor before conditions begin to worsen.

Air quality around the entire state can be monitored at the Department of Ecology’s Air Monitoring Network, and with a local concentration at the Northwest Clean Air Agency website.
