BELLINGHAM, Wash. — The poor air quality will linger a while longer in Whatcom County.
The EPA’s air quality now index for Bellingham this morning is in the “red zone”- unhealthy for some members of the general public.
The National weather service has an air quality alert continuing until 11 this morning, then a new weather system should start to improve the air.
The air quality index is forecasted to move to “orange” later today, meaning unhealthy for sensitive groups, then yellow tomorrow, a moderate concern, and back to good air quality Wednesday.
Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Portland are reporting some of the world’s worst air quality levels today.
Portland’s air quality was literally off the chart yesterday.
This as the west coast fires continue to burn.

The death toll is up to 35 across the west coast as 4 million acres have been scorched.
Some good news- persons evacuated due to the Sumner Grade Fire in Pierce County have been allowed to return to their homes after the fire erupted quickly on Tuesday.
Officials said that fire was started by a blown transformer.
