SEATTLE, WA – (KGMI.com) Alaska Airlines is canceling all flights on Boeing 737 Max 9s through Saturday while the planes remain grounded.
This comes after one of Alaska’s jets suffered an in-flight blowout of a fuselage panel over Oregon last week.
The airline says it’s cancelling 110 to 150 flights a day while Boeing and the FAA decide on how to inspect the fleet.
Alaska says it’s “working around the clock” to reaccommodate impacted travelers.
United Airlines, the only other U.S. carrier that operates the Max 9, has canceled about 200 flights, but it’s not clear how many were related to the Boeing plane.
A panel that plugs the space for an additional door blew off an Alaska Airlines jet over Oregon Friday, leaving a hole in the side of the plane.
The pilots were able to return to Portland and no serious injuries were reported.
