OLYMPIA, Wash. — Most of our local schools have students back in the classroom at least on a hybrid schedule.

But Governor Inslee says that’s not the case across the entire state.

He’s signing an executive order mandating that all districts begin some form of classroom instruction.

Inslee says negative impacts to students’ motivation and overall mental health are clear after a year of remote learning.

Superintendent of Public Instruction Chris Reykdal says it’s especially evident in older students’ grades.

Recent federal relief legislation provides $2.6 billion to Washington schools.

Both Inslee and Reykdal are urging districts to direct much of the funding toward student mental health
