WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. – Recreational shellfish harvesting is now banned on all Whatcom County beaches.
The county Health Department says dangerous levels of paralytic shellfish poisoning biotoxin have been found on beaches in south Whatcom County, and they’ve been added to the list that already included all beaches north of Sandy Point.
The closure includes all of Larrabee State Park and Point Roberts.
The health department warns the biotoxin can be deadly.
Shellfish sold in stores and restaurants has been tested and is safe to eat.
