BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Western Washington University now says almost all of its fall classes will be held online.
The school had hoped to have about 20% of its classes in-person, but says increased cases of COVID-19 have caused them to move to a mostly remote schedule.
Exceptions will be experience-type courses like performance classes and some labs that can be held safely.
That means just 8-10% of classes in the fall will be in-person.
University President Sabah Randhawa says in a statement that he knows it’s a great disappointment, especially to new students looking forward to their first year in college.
But he says they had to make the decision with the health and safety of everyone in mind and the school remains committed to providing high-quality education.
