DUPONT, Wash. — Amtrak and state transportation officials say they’re confident new safety technology will be installed on the rail corridor between Seattle and Portland ahead of the December 31 deadline.
The technology, known as positive train control, or PTC, was not installed on the Amtrak train that derailed on its maiden trip last year in Dupont, killing three people and injuring dozens.
Many believe that despite the engineer’s lack of familiarity with the new route and insufficient signage, PTC would have averted the derailment last December.
