ANACORTES, Wash. — The fiber optic internet system in Anacortes has hit a snag.

The City of Anacortes received one bid from a company to install the fiber optics and the Anacortes City Council voted unanimously Monday night to reject it.

The Skagit Valley Herald reports City Administrative Services Director Emily Schuh said the bid was about $458,000 for 300 customer installations, which is more than double the cost the city had projected.

She says the city can either put the project out to bid again with some adjustments or have city staff complete the work.
