BELLINGHAM, Wash. – A woman who ripped off a former astronaut was sentenced to nearly three years in prison.

Some may remember Bill Anders from a 1968 Christmas eve message from space aboard Apollo Eight.

“In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void, and darkness was upon the face of the deep.”

Anders ecountered darkness back on earth in the form of Sarah Coffelt.

She worked for Anders and his wife on Orcas Island as a bookkeeper for the couple, their Apogee Flight business, and the non-profit Heritage Flight Museum that used to be in Bellingham.

Coffelt embezzled more than $755,000 and used it for personal expenses and to pay bills at Moon Glow Arts and Crafts, a store she owned with her husband on Orcas Island.
