BLAINE, Wash. — A apparently despondent woman led State Patrol troopers on a high-speed chase on I-5 Monday.

A trooper’s incident report states that he clocked the woman going 92 miles per hour near Smith Road just before 11 p.m.

She accelerated to about 100 miles per hour as he pursued her, then slowed to 40 only to speed up to 110 as she continued north.

A second trooper joined the chase before she exited in Blaine, tore through two roundabouts and got back on I-5 going south.

A Whatcom County Sheriff deputy deployed spike strips to stop the car just south of Blaine and the woman ran a short distance before she was arrested.

Officers say the 26-year-old woman told them she tried to flee because she wanted to die.
