OLYMPIA, Wash. — Local law enforcement is watching for drivers using their cellphones through April which is Distracted Driving Awareness Month.

The Washington Traffic Safety Commission says emphasis patrols are underway in Whatcom and Skagit Counties.

Agencies will ticket drivers who text or use their cellphones while driving.

They say you should never scroll through texts or social media while driving, pull over if you must text and use a passenger as your designated texter.

For those struggling with not texting and driving, WTSC suggests putting the cell phone in the trunk, glove box, or back seat of the vehicle until you arrive at your destination.
