LONGVIEW, Wash. — The Army Corps of Engineers revived an environmental review of a controversial coal-export project in Washington a year after state environmental regulators denied the project a key water quality permit.
Last fall, the state Department of Ecology said the $680 million Millennium Bulk Terminals project in Longview would cause significant and unavoidable harm to the environment.
Millennium Bulk Terminals has filed numerous lawsuits in state and federal court accusing the state and governor of being anti-coal and playing politics.
The Corps’ decision to move forward with their environmental review, which was never finalized, comes as the Trump Administration considers using West Coast military installations to help export U.S. fossil fuel to Asia.
