BELLINGHAM, Wash. — The arrest of a suspected bike thief leads to a stash of stolen mail.
An officer says in his report that he was investigating suspicious activity in the 1400 block of St. Paul Street early Tuesday when he saw two men behind a vehicle.
One of the men quickly rode away on a bicycle, prompting the officer to stop him.
He admitted to stealing the pricey bike from a rack on the vehicle, and the officer found him with a spring-loaded knife and metal knuckles in his pockets.
Other officers responding to the scene found a large bag of mail near the vehicle the bike was taken from.
Evidence led them to arrest 25-year-old Cody J Stocker on numerous charges including theft and possession of dangerous weapons.
He told arresting officers he was out of jail on bail.
