BLAINE, Wash. – The removal of the first ever Asian Giant Hornet nest in the U.S. was announced a success by the State Dept of Agriculture early Saturday morning.
Crews wearing thick protective suites vacuumed the insects from the cavity in a tree near Blaine into large canisters.
A video posted on their Facebook page shows the container with numerous specimens that were vacuumed out of the nest.
The nest is about the size of a basketball and contained an estimated 100 to 200 hornets.
