WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. – Trapping season for Asian giant hornets starts this Friday, July 1st.

The state Department of Agriculture’s trapping program is focused on Whatcom County, but trappers are also welcome in Skagit, San Juan, Island and other Puget Sound Counties.

The department stresses that taking part in the trapping program is a commitment.

Traps must be logged into the WSDA’s online mapping system, checked every week through November, and every hornet catch must be submitted to the department.

Citizen traps and reports have been critical to the department’s efforts to eradicate the invasive hornets over the past two years.
