BLAINE, Wash. – The first nest of Asian Giant Hornets this year has been discovered east of Blaine.

The Washington State Department of Agriculture reports the nest is in a rural area about one-quarter mile from where a resident reported a live sighting on August 11.

WSDA narrowed the search area by Tuesday but were unable to access the location until today (Thursday).

Teams searched the area starting at 7:30 this morning and the nest was spotted around 9:15am.

WSDA entomologist will now develop their plans to eradicate the nest, most likely next week.

The public is still asked to report suspected Asian giant hornet sightings.
