SEATTLE (AP) – Indian fisheries officials said the farmed Atlantic salmon that escaped when a net pen collapsed near Cypress Island in August appear to be gone.
The Seattle Times quotes a Northwest Indian Fisheries Commission spokesman who said none of the fish have been caught for weeks and they appear to have scattered.
Cooke Aquaculture, which operated the net pen, said the fish couldn’t forage for food like wild salmon, and those that were caught were on the verge of starvation.
Still, the Wild Fish Conservancy has filed a lawsuit against Cooke, alleging the company was negligent.
