NORTH CASCADES, Wash. – An unusual April saved the day for water stored in Washington’s snowpack.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture is calling it an “Awesome April” after drier than normal months of February and March left the agency predicting gloom and doom.
Snowpack levels were down across the state on April 1st, with the North Puget Sound at 86% of median.
But April brought feet of snow to the mountains and moved that to 108% by May 1st.
The Central Puget region is even better at 132% of median.
The Washington Snow Survey Office says April usually brings light snowfall that barely registers in the snowpack.
