BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Whatcom County officials will hold a public meeting Friday to review challenged general election ballots.

The Whatcom County Canvassing Board says the meeting will take place 10 AM at the County Courthouse in Bellingham as part of the official canvass of the November 6 general election.

Several local races are close calls, including the race for State Senator Doug Ericksen’s seat, with the incumbent leading Democrat challenger Pinky Vargas by less than 100 votes.

42nd District Representatives are also looking at a recount with Republican incumbent Luanne Van Werven holding her seat be a slim margin and fellow incumbent Vincent Buys down by nearly 1,000 votes.

At today’s meeting the canvassing board will go over challenged ballots with questionable signatures and ballots from election staff.
