BELLINGHAM, Wash. — The Lighthouse Mission says a second person who spent a night at the shelter’s Base Camp has tested positive for the coronavirus.
In a release, the Mission says that person had left prior to an available test result.
And, a staff member who was asymptomatic and tested positive has now been isolated.
Executive Director Hans Erchinger-Davis said the Mission is still taking verifiable referrals from other agencies, while maintaining COVID-19 protocols.
A recent case of COVID-19 at the Mission was found to be connected to the tent encampment currently occupying the lawn outside Bellingham City Hall.
Health officials have identified two additional cases at the camp.
Both individuals are now at the isolation and quarantine facility on Byron Avenue in Bellingham.
Whatcom County Health Department Director Erika Lautenbach urges organizers of the encampment, also known as Camp 210, to encourage campers to wear masks and distance themselves from others when possible.
Campers should use the Bellingham Public Library lawn as a dedicated quarantine site for asymptomatic close contacts of confirmed COVID-19 cases.
Those with symptoms should call the health department for further guidance.
