BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Open capacity at a local homeless shelter continues to hold up as the city’s deadline for tent campers to vacate the city hall lawn approaches.
Lighthouse Mission Executive Director Hans Erchinger-Davis says that while usage of the low-barrier Base Camp facility has increased slowly in the past week, availability is still exceeding at least 90 open beds per night.
He told KGMI there are reasons why some persons had been disallowed from Base Camp, such as violent behavior.
But he says there is a path back.
Davis says the requirements to stay at Base Camp are minimal: no violence, no drugs and no stealing.
The Lighthouse Mission Base Camp moved to 1520 Cornwall Avenue in Bellingham last year, and is expected to remain at that location for 3-4 years.
