BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Union workers at Bellingham Cold Storage went on a limited strike over the weekend in hopes of drawing the company back to the bargaining table.

Secretary Treasurer of Teamsters Local 231 Rich Ewing says they hit the picket line Friday morning for a 30 hour strike after the company quit talking.

He says the company’s latest offer in not acceptable because it doesn’t meet industry standards and wants BCS to come back to the bargaining table.

He says they’ve made some progress on health care cost sharing but other sticking points remain.

According to Ewing, the company’s pension and wage offers are not what the workers are looking for and they deserve better.

Workers intended to go back to work after 5pm Saturday with hopes that they can come to an agreement soon.

Contract negotiations with the seafood storage and distribution company have been on-going since last fall.
