MOUNT VERNON, Wash. — A black bear was spotted in Mount Vernon Friday morning.

The Mount Vernon Police Department responded to a report of a black bear in the 1200 block of North Laventure Road at about 8:30 AM.

Additional sightings placed the bear heading east on the Kulshan Trail.

The bear reportedly hid in a culvert to evade search efforts made by multiple agencies and the last sighting was in the area of Waugh Road and Seneca where Fish & Wildlife Officers have placed a trap.

Lieutenant Mike Moore says the bear does not appear to be aggressive.
