BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Most short-term rental spaces were illegal in Bellingham, until this week.

The City of Bellingham adopted new regulations for Short Term Rentals (STRs), which they define as dwellings rented to guests for less than 30 consecutive nights.

The rules put limits on the amount of time STRs can be rented out as well as the number of STRs operators can have.

They also aim to cut down impacts on neighbors with a number of safety and courtesy provisions.

Now, property owners can apply for an STR permit and pay a fee to make their operation legal.
