BELLINGHAM, Wash. — The US Department of Justice has awarded more than $6.3-million to local and state law enforcement, including Bellingham.

Bellingham was awarded $36,000 to split between the Bellingham Police Department and the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office.

The funds will support a variety of initiatives, including drug task forces, crime prevention, and officer safety.

Also receiving funds are the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Forces to support investigations in 25 of Washington’s 39 counties.

The funds were part of a program honoring a New York City police officer who was killed in the line of duty.
