BELLINGHAM, Wash. –  A local air squadron has been honored as Washington State’s best.

The Civil Air Patrol Bellingham Composite Squadron was named the Washington Wing 2017 Unit of the year and Squadron Of Merit.

The Squadron consists of teenage cadet and adult members.

Squadron Commander Lieutenant Colonel Tim Kelley was also named unit commander of the year, for a second time.

The Civil Air Patrol serves as the official auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force.
