BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Bellingham Bay is now closed for shellfish harvesters.
Whatcom County Health officials issued a statement Wednesday, September 23rd, saying that high levels of harmful biotoxins have been found in area shellfish.
Recreational shellfish harvest has also been suspended for Portage Bay, Chuckanut Bay and Larrabee State Park.
Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning, or PSP toxins, were also found in shellfish earlier this month in Skagit Bay.
Those toxins can’t be cooked or frozen out of affected shellfish.
For more information on closures, you can find a map at the Washington State Department of Health’s website.
