BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The young black bear roaming around the Bellingham-area is frustrating State Fish and Wildlife game warden Dave Jones.
“This bear is shell shocked, I mean, he got kicked out of his home range. He’s young, he’s clueless, he’s not looking to hurt anybody. He does love bird feeders, I’ll tell you what. He’s got a sweet tooth for bird feeders, so if you have a bird feeder, that I would be afraid of because he’s gonna eat your bird feeder.”
Jones says he caught a glimpse of the bear Monday and chased after it.
“So I’m trying to switch out my real bullets in my shotgun and put in some bean-bag rounds to give him a little incentive to, maybe wanna, move on a little bit.”
But, the bear got away.
Jones says he’s been close to catching the bear and he has traps set up right now and hopes to snag it soon.
Meanwhile, a bear spotted earlier in the Blaine and Ferndale areas swam to Lummi Island.
Jones says that bear then swam to Orcas Island, where wildlife agents trapped it.
