BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Bellingham City Council members have voted to preserve more land near the Lake Whatcom watershed.
During their meeting on Monday, August 29 members approved a decision to purchase 3.2 acres of land near the lake.
The area was obtained through the city’s Land Acquisition and Preservation Program, which maintains properties near the lake to avoid water pollution.
City officials also confirmed that over 130 acres of commercial forest have also been acquired through the program this year.
More than 2,500 acres of land are protected under the city’s program in total.
