NEWHALEM, Wash. – A Bellingham woman is dead after falling into a crevasse on Forbidden Peak in Skagit County.
A North Cascades National Park spokesperson says Susan Bennett, 61, fell several hundred feet while descending the West Ridge of Forbidden Peak with three other people Saturday evening.
A rescue team found Bennett’s body in a 30-foot-deep crevasse in Forbidden Glacier.
The rest of her climbing party was able to descend safely.
