LOPEZ ISLAND, Wash. – A Bellingham Coast Guard crew rescued two 12-year-old boys who became stranded in the San Juan Islands Wednesday.
The Coast Guard got the call just after 2:00 in the afternoon.
The boys were paddling together near Lopez Island in a single kayak and battling the current for over an hour with no progress.
They made it to Crab Island but had no way of returning to Lopez Island on their own.
The kayakers paddled out to meet the Coast Guard boat and were taken to the boat ramp at Hunter’s Point on Lopez Island.
