BELLINGHAM, Wash. — A group of Bellingham middle schoolers will be the first to take a new STEM class at Western Washington University this summer.

WWU said Shelley and Steve Sulkin, two lifelong Bellingham educators, gave the university $50,000 to establish the Sulkin STEM Inclusion Odyssey of Science Fund.

Program courses will engage students in case studies of actual research projects being conducted by Western faculty and grad students on ocean acidification in the Salish Sea and other topics such as toxic algae blooms.

The program will be held June 25-29 from 8 A.M. to noon at WWU.
