QUILCENE, Wash. — A Bellingham couple is lucky to be alive after a tree fell on their car as they drove through Monday’s windstorm.
Joseph and Deborah Bernard were heading back to Bellingham on Highway 101 after visiting family on the Olympic Peninsula for Thanksgiving when a hundred-foot tree crashed down right across their windshield.
“[We] escaped death by the grace of God and seatbelt,” Deborah told KOMO News.
The couple posed for pictures with the tree across their car while crews worked to reopen the road.
Incredible story out of Quilcene this morning as a couple survives their car being struck by a falling tree: https://t.co/x2fluf5359 #wawx @NWSSeattle
